Photos of a trip South into Germany from Jutland to see the Viking museum at Hedeby in Schleswig.

Panorama of Hedeby and its environs

Panorama of Hedeby and its environs Harvard in Scandinavia: June 27-30, 2008 (Hedeby)
This panorama shows the modern pastures and what may have been the harbor at Hedeby. The reconstructed portion of the town is visible at the far right of the frame, although when Hedeby was at its height, the entire area in view would have contained the buildings of the town. The ridge visible extending from the center of the frame to the left edge and beyond is the defensive earthwork, which surrounded the town on land, and connected to the defensive structure which stretched across Jutland, cutting the Danish peninsula off from attack from the South.
