"Textiles from Illerup
The objects had been roughly packed together, tied up e.g. in cloth and with rope. On many of the iron shield bosses we found impressions of cloth, but the textiles themselves have not been preserved, because of the alkali (calcium) content of the bog. The ferric oxide from the shield bosses has preserved the structure of the cloth, but not the wool itself."
